Custom Gift Box Brief: What to Include in a Quote Request
A useful custom gift box quote starts with a clear brief. You do not need every production detail before the first conversation, but accurate dimensions, quantity, artwork status, destination, and product-fit requirements allow the packaging direction to be reviewed efficiently.
Use this checklist to organize the information you already have and identify what still needs a decision.
1. Describe the Product and Its Packed Orientation
Explain what the box will hold and how the customer should first see it. Include the product dimensions, weight, quantity per box, and whether accessories, literature, cables, bottles, or other components are packed with it.
If the product is fragile, unusually shaped, or sensitive to movement, note that early. A reference photo with a ruler can help, but written measurements are still required.
2. Provide Internal Dimensions
Custom packaging is normally planned around usable internal space. Give the preferred length, width, and depth in a consistent unit. If you only know the product dimensions, say so and identify any clearance, tissue, filler, or insert you expect to use.
Do not estimate from an external box photo. Board thickness, wrap, insert walls, and construction can affect the relationship between internal and external measurements.
3. Choose a Structure Direction
You can begin with a preferred structure or ask for a recommendation based on the product and opening experience.
- Lid and base: a separate top lifts from the base.
- Book-style magnetic: an attached hinged lid closes magnetically.
- Drawer: an inner tray slides from an outer sleeve.
- Foldable rigid: the box stores flat and is assembled before packing.
The custom rigid box collection provides a useful overview of these presentation structures.
4. State the Required Quantity
Provide the quantity for the current project, not only a possible future volume. If you are comparing two realistic quantities, list both. Project-specific minimums and commercial details are confirmed after the complete specification is reviewed.
5. Include Artwork and Branding Direction
Send the logo or artwork file if it is available. Identify the preferred placement, approximate size, color direction, and whether the branding appears outside, inside, or in more than one location. If artwork is not final, explain what is still being developed.
A reference image can communicate the intended mood, but it does not replace production artwork or permission to use a logo.
6. Explain Insert and Product-Fit Requirements
Describe how the product should sit inside the box and what should be visible when the lid opens. Include the number of components, removal direction, finger access, protective needs, and any card, booklet, or accessory compartment.
The insert affects the internal layout, box depth, packing sequence, and presentation, so it should not be treated as a final add-on.
7. Share Destination and Timing Needs
Provide the destination country and postal code. If the project has a required in-hand date, state it as a planning requirement rather than assuming a universal production or transit promise. Sampling, production, packing, and shipping details are confirmed for the reviewed specification.
8. Add Reference Images
Include photographs or links that show the structure, color direction, finish, insert layout, or opening experience you prefer. Note which element matters in each reference. This prevents a reference image from being interpreted as a request to copy every visible detail.
